Sun Ray Thin Client Technology

Simplified Management on Your Choice of OS

Controlled Desktop
Centrally manage and control the end-user desktop experience by changing configuration settings from the server, not the client. It gives you a variety of options, from locking down the desktop to display a browser only, to publishing full-screen Windows, Linux, and Solaris OS desktops. In addition, you can set up centralized policy configurations for groups of users with the Java Desktop System on the Solaris 10 OS.

Zero Client Management
Sun Ray Software manages the client device by itself, which frees administrators to focus on more important things than OS images, security patch updates, and local application updates. It's a big time-saver compared to embedded OS thin clients (Windows XPe, Windows CE, Embedded Linux, and even proprietary thin operating systems) which all require image management software. That means the administrator has to set up software and client device configurations and establish update schedules to push new updates to the client. It's just like PC management. But Sun Ray Software removes the client management burden altogether.

Broad OS and Hardware Support
Sun Ray Software supports a wide range of open source operating systems for x86/x64 servers (Solaris 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Suse Enterprise Linux Server) and for UltraSPARC servers (Solaris 10, 9, 8, and Trusted Solaris 8).

Hot Desk Mobility with Statelessness

Hot Desk Mobility
Sun Ray Software completely virtualizes the desktop, which lets users move from any Sun Ray client to another and resume their desktop sessions with instant right-where-they-left-off access. Think of freezing live TV and then driving to your friend's house to restart the program in the exact same spot. That's what you get with Sun Ray Virtual Clients. Hot Desk mobility lets you pull your ID card out of one Sun Ray Client without saving or pausing anything on your desktop and move to another Sun Ray Client -- across the office, down the hall, in the conference room, or across the ocean, wherever there's an authorized network connection -- without losing a single thing. That's what we mean by right-where-you-left-off access.

True Stateless Delivery
Sun Ray Software also provides fully stateless connectivity to Sun Ray clients. Statelessness is one way Sun Ray products protect your documents and provide Hot Desk Mobility. What's "statelessness"? Try unplugging the power cord to any desktop thin client during boot, mid-session, or while connecting. Upon restart, if you don't have all your applications up and running in the exact same spot, it isn't a true "stateless" device. It's just another PC-like thin client, which means you haven't really removed the management burden from the client. Try this trick with a Sun Ray client, and it will resume exactly where you left off.

Safe, Flexible Windows Delivery

Connector for Windows
Deliver a secure mobile Windows desktop experience with the Sun Ray Connector for Windows. It gives you a direct connection to Windows Terminal Services and can provide a full-screen Windows desktop or access to specific Windows applications on a Solaris or Linux desktop. Now it's easy to access local peripherals, cut and paste between applications on different operating systems, and use a smart card to authenticate to Windows applications.
